Ah! The Glories of Homework:
-
Lit. Log: Assignment 4 was passed out today. It is due on Monday, May 22.
-
Independent Reading Log: Ye olde IRL will be due on May 30.
Wednesday Wonkiness: We learned about “pantoums.” Remember what they are?
Tuesday Talk: We had a great read around today about Kiki Smith’s painting. We also reviewed “figurative language.” It seemed that everyone was making quite good progress on their lit. logs. Yay.
Monday Matters: Did you know that May is National Biking Month? Do you have a bike? Do you ride it frequently?

Mr. Wright’s new baby has a beautiful name: Annalace.
Do you know the most popular names for infants in the U.S.? In Mexico? Canada?
How do you feel about your own name? Is there a family history to your name?

* Lit. logs due Friday.
*** Rough drafts and revision sheets for writing projects due Friday!
* Midterms, signed, due Wednesday.
* Field Trip Permission Slip due Thursday.
Wednesday: The editing circles were a little tricky today, but I think we’re moving in the right direction now. Please remember to be friendly when you edit someone’s work. Writers are sensitive folk! I hear we have many days of rain ahead. Not sure how I feel about that.
Tuesday: Your read around pieces were great to hear today. I’m looking forward to your editing groups tomorrow.

May 5: Your writing project rough drafts are due Tuesday. What did you think of our speed dating literature discussions? The IRP presentations have been terrific. It was so nice to spend time outside with our books today. Happy weekend, Sixers!
I’ve been behind on BLOG news and notes this week. It’s been a hard week for Childs. I want to thank all you sixers for your kindness today and every day. You’re all remarkable people and all your teachers feel lucky to know you.
Today we heard about some excellent books. Thanks for working with me to produce “one sentence summaries.” Tomorrow lit. logs are due, so please have those ready to go.
Your “Used To But Now” poems were lovely. I always enjoy the read arounds. Tomorrow’s Friday and I’m looking forward to meeting with literature groups. Enjoy the nice weather this afternoon.
