Homework anyone?
- 2 pages of your writing project. F
- I Hear Childs School Singing Final Draft – F
- Note Taking Note Making Sheet due April 6
Thursday Notes: At Circle Check Out, we heard many terrific lines from your writing projects. I was glad we had a good chunk of time for writing. It seemed to me that great progress was being made. How do you feel about the writing you did today?
Wednesday Notes: Today I started the day by reading aloud. You are all excellent listeners and it’s a pleasure reading to you. We also learned about ACTIVE voice versus PASSIVE voice when writing. I gave some excellent live action examples!
We did some work on our stories, plays and poems. Tonight, find a comfy spot to curl up with your writer’s notebook and write a page or two. I find it very relaxing to write in my notebook. I hope you do too.
Tuesday Notes: It was a writing kind of day. Did you make any progress? What texts did you collect for your writing research?
Monday Notes: We worked on a practice “Note Taking/Note Making” Sheet today. In first period, we read some articles about exclusion. In second period, we read about cheerleading changes. And in third period, we read about a 7th grade performance that was cancelled. Any thoughts about these articles?
P.S. How is this picture connected with our vocab word of the day?

Homework this week:
- First Period: Story proposal due today
- Second Period: 2 zine drafts due today
- Third Period: Play proposal due today
- I Hear Childs School Singing Final Draft… due next FRIDAY!
Thursday Notes: Today was a fantastic Friday. In first period we read over The Harmonica by Tony Johnston and analyzed the meanings and the writing of this phenomenal book. In second period, we read and wrote about NAMES, and I was surprised at how many stories are behind our names. We’ll finish reading those on Monday. Third period peeps listened to a very abridged version of Hamlet. What an uplifting play, wouldn’t you say??? How are the writing projects coming along??? Any fun weekend plans?
Wednesday Notes: I loved the poetry you wrote today, using Walt Whitman’s poem as a model. What did you think of Whitman’s poem? Did you have a favorite line from the one you wrote? Tomorrow you will have Lifeskills in L.A.
Tuesday Notes: We had time for DEAR today. I always like starting class that way. I’m reading a terrific novel my sister sent me. It’s called Special Topics in Calamity Physics. And you are reading….? We also watched a DVD about gender stereotypes in books. Did any of the statements in the DVD ring true to you?
Monday Notes: We talked about writing for the “In the Margins” press. First period worked on proposals for their stories. Second period looked over some great zine pieces that were decorated with original artwork. Third period read an article about segregated proms and talked about how this article was made into a screenplay.

Have you heard this expression?
Today we started class with a read aloud. Then we talked about using commas to set off interrupters. Can you remember any interrupters? We had great chats about the texts we’ve been reading this week. Then we moved over to the computer lab. We got a lot done this week. I hope you all have some fun and sun this weekend. How are the book brochures coming along???
