Monday Notes: We had to take a cognitive standardized test in the morning. All 3rd graders take this test in Monroe County. After our test, we worked on consonant blends and we read a book called War Between the Vowels and the Consonants. After lunch, we practiced for our convocation with Ms. Streib’s class. Then we worked on multiplication practice. We got a lot done today.
Tuesday Notes: When Ms. Montgomery came in, we listened to our podcast. We all agreed that it sounded GREAT! We read a new book called Ballot Box Battle about Elizabeth Cady Stanton. After lunch, we went outside on this beautiful fall day. We found leaves and wrote poems TO our leaves, pretending we were talking to them. We were inspired by a poem by Frank O’Hara. After more multiplication work, we went to the gym and practiced our skits for Friday’s convocation.
Wednesday: Our convocation skit is really coming together. We worked hard at rehearsal this afternoon. We read a great book called Grace for President and wrote our own “I wonder…” statements about the text. We had our first “Acuity” test in the computer lab this afternoon. Today’s test was about math. We have 3 more ”Acuity” tests to go.
Thursday: This morning we studied Ballot Box Battle. We talked about the book’s themes and then we found “power words” and “snapshots” in the story. We agree it is a great book! We worked on our Voices in the Playground stories. They are going to be great!

Monday: What a Monday! We started our day with Morning Meeting and then talking some more about Voices in the Park. We then went over our new spelling words for the week and went right into our Lit Circles. After recess and lunch we had more science work with the Respiratory System and tested our lung capacity by blowing air into balloons. We then did some math work with multiplication arrays and division arrays. We had 2nd Steps with Mrs. Lewis in the afternoon and ended our day with Power Groups and letters to Ms. Solomons in our reflection journals.
Thursday: We had a fun, but sad, celebration in the afternoon. Ms. Solomons had her last day with us. Now she will leave for Australia to do the second part of her student teaching there. She gave each of us our own Crow Boy book. We will miss her.
Friday: Ms. H. was at a meeting in the morning, so we had a substitute teacher for two hours. Ms. Montgomery came in and we worked on our latest podcast, about Voices in the Park. We are practicing for our convocation next week. Our class will be presenting a short skit about responsibility and attendance to the school. We celebrated Ms. H.’s birthday in the afternoon. Woohoo!
