Monday:  What a busy beginning to the week.  After literature circles, we put all some writing pieces into our portfolios.  We met with our book buddies after lunch and made tooth puppets.  We had another ACUITY test and SECOND STEPS.  We finished reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid.  What a great book!

Tuesday: Today we learned the meaning of TENTATIVE.  ”Nick made a tentative plan to join the game.” We also read more about Afghanistan and worked on our literature logs.  Mrs. Montgomery came in and helped us podcast! The Bloomington High School North actors came today and performed a play for us.  It was about a girl named ERNEST who daydreamed a lot!  We are still working on fractions in math class.

Week of March 23

Monday Notes:  We got right back to work this morning with our literature groups.  The Civil War on Sunday group had an awesome discussion.  We went to Butler Park for our recess.  After lunch, we finished our math test.  Then we had a convocation with dancers and drummers playing music from Ghana.  They were awesome.  Many Fairview kids got up and danced with the group.  It was nice to see everyone back in 306 today.  Yay.

Wednesday Notes:  We saw bits and pieces of Swan Lake today at the Musical Arts Center.  The dancers were amazing and we loved the costumes and the music.  In the afternoon, we learned about Monroe County settlers and how they met their basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.  There were 4 different kinds of mills here:  saw mills, grist mills, carding mills, and cider mills.  We BARTERED today, trading photographs of early Monroe County.  Today rocked.

Thursday Notes:  Today started off with music and art.  Then we had small group chats about the book, Afghan Dreams. The Secret Soldier group met and talked about Deborah Sampson.  She was a very strong woman in history.  We worked more on fractions, before library time.  We had to take an acuity test after library time.  Today was awesome! :)

Monday Notes:  It’s so good to be done with ISTEP testing.  This morning we read more from our Afghan Dreams book.  We also learned about the word “squandered.”  After lunch, we worked with our 1st grade buddies on some leprechaun stories.  During math, we learned more about “extended” math facts, solving problems like 40 x 80 and 70 x 90.  Ms. Lewis visited for Second Steps and we ended the day with power groups.  Bravo, 306!

Tuesday Notes:  We had gym and music.  We danced today in music.  We had a sub today in gym.  Then we did our zines for a LONG time!  Our math lesson was about exploring with pattern blocks.  It was a great day!

Friday Notes:  It’s time for spring break!!!  WooHOO!!!  Today we worked on our leprechaun art projects and our zines.  In the afternoon, we had podcast practice and then Mrs. Streib taught a science lesson.  We used beans to figure out some very tough math problems.

Ms. Litz came to talk about our new recess plan.  We’re going to be having recess at Reverend Butler Park!!!

Week of March 2

Monday Notes:  Wow, March is here already?  We started ISTEP testing today.  Everyone worked very hard.  We also worked on our Fairview Faces interviews.  Thanks to our IU teachers, for helping us with interviews and photography.  Today was Read Across America Day.  We heard an IU soccer player read Green Eggs and Ham.  We read books by Dr. Seuss with our book buddies and with our second grade pals.  Happy Birthday, Theodore Geisel!

Tuesday Notes:  In the morning, we did another math ISTEP.  Then we worked on finishing up our lit. log covers.  And after lunch, we did our writing ISTEP.  We went to music in the afternoon and watched an awesome video. In math we learned that if 3 x 6 = 18, 30 x 6 = 180.  The Banneker kids add this news, “The hamsters have been a little annoying, drinking water and making noises during the day.  But they love everyone in 306 and came out for some fun after school ended.”

Wednesday Notes:  Another great day in 306.  We worked super hard on our ISTEP test in the morning.  Then we all worked on our writing projects.  Our zines are coming together.  During social studies, we learned about pioneer children.  We are making Bloomington brochures for Bloomington 1818.
