Week of Sept. 15

Monday: Today was a good day! We started out our day with Morning Meeting, then a short ISTEP practice test to get our brains working for tomorrow. We then had a language arts skill practice and got into our Literature Circles to read, discuss and write about the books we are reading. Then, we continued our math measurement skills practicing measuring to the inch, half inch and quarter of an inch with a ruler. We finished up our day with some cursive handwriting practice. It was a very productive Monday!

Tuesday: We had a terrific Tuesday today! The day started out, like usual, with Morning Meeting. Afterwards we started our first day of ISTEP and took Language Arts test 1 & 2. Afterwards we read The Shivers in the Fridge, which is one of our Young Hoosier Book Award books, as a group. After recess and lunch we worked on writing our scripts for our third podcast about Frederick Douglass. We had music then math power groups and ended the day writing a note to Ms. Solomons in our writer’s notebooks. Productive Day 306’ers!

Wednesday: What a Wonderful Wednesday! We started the day with Morning Meeting then the writing section of the ISTEP test. We then went to Music and Art and finished just in time for recess and lunch. After lunch we read a new book to write about and discuss: Voices from the Fields by Jose Luis Rios. We then broke into our Literature Circles again to continue reading and discussing our group books. We went to Gym and came back inside to read the Young Hoosier Book Award book Dad, Jackie and Me by Myron Uhlberg. We ended the day with indoor recess and Math Power Groups. What a day!

Thursday: Another tremendous Thursday! We started out the morning with ISTEP 4 and 5 Math sections after Morning Meeting. Then, due to our hard work and concentration during the ISTEP we gained an extra long recess. After lunch we re-read Voices from the Fields by Jose Luis Rios and started a class discussion. We also worked on our Frederick Douglass podcast scripts and finished editing our final drafts to be ready to record tomorrow! We had library and gym then went off to our math Power Groups and came back to the room to write letters to our teacher in our Reflection Journals. It was a long but productive Tuesday.

Friday: Today was our first day this week without a section of our ISTEP test- woo hoo! We started the day out with Readers Workshop working on our partner prompts for Voices from the Fields. We went to art then to computer lab where we learned more about the life of Frederick Douglass and made posters to advertise our 306 Podcast! After recess and lunch we had a Social Studies lesson reading our Time For Kids and writing paragraphs about the article we find most important and interesting. Afterwards we moved into a Math measurement lesson then had Power Groups and finished our Friday with a little cursive handwriting practice.
